FRSC to withdraw licenses from recalcitrant drivers

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) says it will revoke the driving licenses of recalcitrant drivers.

FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, made this known on Friday in Abuja while addressing journalists on the outcome of the 2024 Eid-el Kabir Special Patrol Operations which took place between Friday, June 14 and Sunday, June 23.

He said the Corps had realised, more than ever, the growing need for collective participation and collaboration by all stakeholders.

He also said the body used this as a necessary variable tool to help achieve the recorded mileage within the periods considered.

According to him, these activities include strengthening the Joint Inter-Agency Task Force (JTF) to mitigate the excesses of trailer drivers.

“Enforce compliance with the indiscriminate use of trailers for the transportation of human beings.

“This also includes aggressive public lighting, robust media engagement and aggressive promotional campaigns carried out in car parks across the federation.

“Finally, the identification and mapping of strategic routes throughout the country and the effective deployment of adequate personnel and logistics to cover them were also carried out,” he said.

The FRSC boss said the body had a strong engagement with the leaders of the various transport unions and security agencies.

These, he said, include the State Traffic Management Agencies and the FCT Department of Road Traffic Services.

“All this was done to ensure that all stakeholders, both from the public and private sectors, play a vital role in strengthening road safety.

“Based on the above, let me inform you that we have expanded the conventional application of traffic rules on articulated vehicles.

“We have gone a step further by commencing the prosecution of recalcitrant drivers through mobile court operations in all 36 states of the federation and the FCT.

“More drastic measures will be taken later, including the suspension and withdrawal of the national driver’s license,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that before the commencement of the 2024 Sallah Special Patrol, the FRSC Corps Marshal had spoken on the mileage to be achieved to reduce the curve of road accidents.
