How two men allegedly gang-raped and robbed women at gunpoint: Police

Police in Nigeria’s southeastern Anambra state say they have arrested two men who allegedly gang-raped and robbed women in the state.

This was revealed by the state police spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, in a statement on Sunday.

Ikenga, the Superintendent of Police, gave the names of the suspects as Chukwuma Diji, 35, and Micheal Edochie, 31, all indigenes of Abagana in Njikoka Local Government Area of ​​the state.

How women were allegedly gang-raped and robbed

Ikenga said the suspects, sometime in 2023, allegedly raped an unidentified married woman in Obinagu, a village in Abagana community.

The police spokesperson stated that the suspects fled the community when security officers attempted to arrest them.

He said the suspects, on June 6, allegedly broke into an apartment belonging to an unnamed young woman and raped her and her friend at gunpoint.

But he did not confirm whether the alleged rape was committed in the same Abagaña Community.

“The (alleged) offenders then forced one of the victims to transfer money to their account after they took turns having sex with them,” he said.

Arrest

Ikenga said police officers from the Abagana Police Division arrested the suspects on Saturday morning.

The spokesman said the suspects confessed to committing the crimes.

According to the statement, two locally made double barrel guns, one locally made single barrel pistol, six live rounds and a motorcycle were recovered from the suspects.

The spokesperson said the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Itam, ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the state Criminal Investigation Department for investigation and possible prosecution.

“The suspects will be charged to court once the investigation is concluded,” he stated.
