Nigerian hospital appoints new specialists to improve service delivery

The management of Reddington Hospital, one of the leading private healthcare facilities in Nigeria, has appointed new professionals to join its medical team in different specialties.

This is according to a statement issued by the facility on Thursday.

According to the Group Medical Director of Reddington Hospital, Olutunde Lalude, the management decided to improve patient care and improve service delivery at the hospital.

Lalude said the appointment aligns with the hospital’s vision of attracting the best Nigerian medical professionals from abroad who will use their expertise for the benefit of the country.

He said: “The appointments are further evidence of Reddington Hospital’s ongoing commitment to stopping medical tourism, reversing the brain drain and improving standards of care.

“These objectives are accompanied by the determination to make high-quality healthcare affordable and create employment opportunities to bring significant socio-economic value to Lagos State and Nigeria as a whole.”

The hospital appointed Abiodun Osibamowo, a US-trained internal medicine consultant, as its medical director.

He also appointed Taoreed Azeez and Olusesan Adebayo as clinical directors; Faith Ekpekurede as Emergency Medicine Service Group Director and Joy Oshun as Non-Invasive Cardiology Lead.

About designated persons

Abiodun Osibamowo, who has been appointed as the new medical director, is a US-trained internal medicine consultant. He graduated from the Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Benin City, Edo State, and moved to the United Kingdom in 1989 to continue his professional growth before moving to the US. .in search of a graduate degree.

Osibamowo returned to Nigeria in 2014 and soon after began working at Saint Nicholas Hospital, Lagos Island, until December 2019, and then at Reddington Multi-Specialty Hospital, Victoria Island, from 2020 to 2021.

In 2021, he moved to Port-Harcourt, Rivers State, and worked at RNZ Occupational Hospital as a Consultant Physician, Head of the Department of Medicine and Associate Medical Director (AMD) until December 2023, before returning to Lagos to join Reddington . Multispecialist Hospital.

Meanwhile, Taoreed Azeez, one of the newly appointed clinical directors, has a master’s degree in Human Physiology from Obafemi Awolowo University and an MBA from People’s University, United States.

He also has certified courses in diabetes care at the University of Pretoria, South Africa, and the University of Leicester, United Kingdom.

Mr. Afeez is a member of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE) and the Endocrinology and Metabolism Society of Nigeria (EMSON). He is also a member of the Endocrinology, Metabolism and Diabetes Society of South Africa (SEMDSA) and the Endocrinology Society of the United Kingdom. He has published more than 50 research articles in local and international journals.

Another new appointee, Joy Osun, is a member of the Nigerian Cardiac Society and the European Society of Cardiology. She trained in the Cardiology division of the Tygerberg Academic Hospital in Cape Town, South Africa, and in 2023 she became the first West African to receive the Cardiovascular Imaging Training Award from the European Cardiovascular Imaging Association.

She is an advocate for increased clinical research, training and development of health professionals, and improved quality of care for patients with cardiovascular diseases in Nigeria.

Faith Ekpekurede is an Irish and UK trained doctor with approximately 15 years’ experience in Emergency Medicine and over 30 years’ experience in practice. She holds a graduate certificate in healthcare simulation education from the Harvard Medical Simulation Center as a healthcare simulation instructor.

He is a member of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine in the United Kingdom.
