President Bola Tinubu has approved May 27 to June 6 as Federal Capital Territory Week for the inauguration of various projects executed under his administration.

This was stated by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, while inspecting some of the projects in preparation for the inauguration to mark Tinubu’s first year in office.

“With the approval of Mr. President, we believe that starting May 27 we will begin the inauguration of several projects and will finish on June 6.

“Specifically on May 27, President Tinubu will inaugurate commercial operations of the Abuja Light Rail, also known as Abuja Metro Line, and we will carry out the final inspection of the project on May 20.

“From what we’ve seen, I think we’re ready to go,” he said.

Wike also expressed confidence that the vice president’s residence, located on Aso Drive, will be completed and can be inaugurated on June 6.

He explained that the nine-day inauguration activities will demonstrate to the world the determination of the Tinubu-led administration to renew the hope of Nigerians.

He added: “We have many projects underway that will be inaugurated. There are so many projects that I can’t begin to list them.

“We are happy; the contractors are meeting and have fulfilled all the promises made.

“We have also done our part by ensuring that we have the necessary cash and that none of the contractors are complaining in terms of cash.”

The minister added that within the deadline, other projects such as the construction of bus terminals and the Court of Appeals, FCT Division, among other projects, will be inaugurated.

Regarding the non-functioning of some streetlights in some parts of the city, Mr Wike explained that some streetlights were being repaired, while others were being tested.

He assured residents that the streetlights would be turned on once the contractors finished working on them.

“As I speak to you, most of the streetlights are under construction and with the project we are carrying out it is not expected that the light will be on.

“Contractors are testing them, so most of the ones that aren’t working are the ones that are being worked on.

“We believe that before the inauguration you will see that most of the streetlights will be on,” the minister said.
