Bauchi: I just want PDP to retain power in 2027 – party manager

Must Read

As agitation for a change of power in Bauchi's policy to other areas beyond the Senatorial District of southern Bauchi for the 2027 governor post, a major statesman in the state, Garba Mohammed Noma, has declared that his main concern is how the main opposition, the Democratic Party of the Peoples (PDP), will retain power in the State.

Garba Noma, who is the president of the PDP elderly committee in the state, dismissed the claims that he has backed an aspiring Bauchi's local government competing for the governor's ticket of the party in the general elections of 2027.

Speaking to a select group of journalists in his Ramadan press office in Bauchi, Garba Noma, former president of the PDP, said he had been widely cited with respect to his alleged support of his relative of Bauchi LGA to happen to Senator Bala Mohammed in 2027.

The businessman clarified: “They cited me badly. They asked me and answered that if someone here is considered the best for the party, I will support them. I do not have a favorite candidate, but any competent PDP candidate from any part of the state that emerges will have my total support.”

As the Emirate of Jarman Bauchi, Garba Noma has a significant influence inside and outside the State, which makes his possible support of any applicant a critical factor that can shape the unit of the party before the next elections.

He also clarified: “I did not support anyone from the local Bauchi government. I was mistakenly cited. Someone asked me in a public function about the many candidates of Bauchi Lga, and I simply said:” May God give us the right leader. “That does not mean that I will not support a PDP candidate from another part of Bauchi.”

He added: “I never said that the applicants from other parts of Bauchi should be denied the party ticket. However, if someone from the local Bauchi government emerges as a candidate, it is a matter of prayer, and I don't see anything bad in that.”

According to him, “I have always said before the governor and other interested parties that can give us the right person to direct the PDP in 2027. I never specified the local Bauchi government. But would it be bad if someone from Bauchi Lga emerged as governor?”

He emphasized: “Someone from Bauchi Lga can be the closest person for me, but I can be close to anyone. However, to say that a candidate from Bauchi Lga should not arise unfair.”

Garba Noma concluded: “I want peace, and peace begins with my people before extending to others. It is God who chooses the leaders, and I have no objections to whom it emerges, provided that most people in PDP love them.”
