The interested parties of the Democratic Party of the Peoples (PDP) in the federal constituency of Oyo, the state of Oyo, have requested the intervention of Governor Seyi Makinde on the persistent crisis that shakes the party in the area.
The interested parties, extracted from Aphjio, Atiba, Oyo East and the areas of the local government of Oyo West, made the appeal after a meeting held during the weekend, during which they emphasized the urgent need to rescue and relive the PDP in the federal constituency.
In a statement issued at the end of the meeting, party members cited factors such as “unequal exchange of political appointments and spaces, antipartid activities, centralization of power and breach of the constitution of the party” as important problems that undermine the growth of the party in the constituency.
The statement, entitled “The urgent need to rescue, revive and save PDP in the federal constituency of Oyo”, was signed by the former president of the House of the Oyo State Assembly, Hon. Morufu Atilola; Alhaji Isiaka Adebayo; Alhaji Fatai Obabi; Mr. Wasiu Olaoti; Mr. Ogunlana, along with another 29.
According to the document, “all truly committed members of the PDP in the federal constituency of Oyo have increased in unison to revive and rescue the imminent collapse party due to high hand, betrayal, selective treatment, falsehood, oppression and open confrontations.”
The interested parties urged Governor Makinde, whom they described as the party leader in the state, “to decentralize power, allow with all inclusive participation and address other problems that affect the party.”

They also advocated the formal recognition of former President Atilola as the leader of the PDP in the federal constituency of Oyo, pointing out that it is a “unifying force and has the ability to promote democratic ideals.”
According to them, considering their proposals would help find a lasting solution to the challenges that face the party in the constituency.
They emphasized that adopting their recommendations would improve the progress of the party, warning that the current proxy leadership system has continued to worsen the situation instead of improving it.
The interested parties also highlighted issues such as “unhemiguality in the exchange of political appointments and spaces, antipartid activities among some leaders of the parties, centralization/concentration of power in one side that lead to marginalization, malignant and oppression, do not work on the organs of the party.”
They also criticized “breach of the constitution of the party and joint deliberations and harmonization during the latest local government elections”, and lamented “complete absence of information and communication due to the concentration of power in one side.”
