The spokesman of the House of Representatives, the representative Akin Rotimi, has affirmed that the leadership of the National Assembly was duly consulted by President Bola Tinubu before the statement of the state of emergency in the state of Rivers.
Rotimi revealed this through a statement made available to parliamentary correspondents in Abuja on Tuesday.
He said: “In response to multiple consultations, I can confirm that the National Assembly was duly consulted for its excellence, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, to reach this decision.
“The leadership of the National Assembly, including the president of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, Gcon; the president of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, pHD., GCON; The vice president, Rt. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, cons; Conc. And the representative of the House of Representatives;

“They also attended key security officials, including the inspector General of Police, Kayode EGBETOKUN, the General Director of the State Security Service (SSS), Ajayi Adeola and the General Director of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Mohammed Mohammed.
“During this meeting, they were completely informed about Mr. President's intentions, and everyone present unanimously expressed their support.
“In addition, the formal letter of Mr. President, which informs the Chamber of Representatives of its decision and seeks approval in accordance with section 305 of the Constitution, has been transmitted and read during the plenary tomorrow, Wednesday, March 19, 2025, and an additional legislative action discussed and decided.”
