The Federal Government has appointed Prof. Olusegun Sylvester Eye as the pioneer medical director of the Federal University of Technology (FUTA), Akure, Ondo State with effect as of March 5, 2025.
Until now, Akure has been the only state capital in the country without a tertiary hospital.
Announcing the appointment together with those of five main medical directors, President Tinubu spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, on Friday, February 28, revealed that the appointments are for four years, effective since the respective dates of Assumption of charge.
According to him, President Tinubu congratulated the main medical and re -rates, urging them to defend the highest standards of professionalism, responsibility and provision of services in their respective roles.

Presenting the appointment letter in Abuja on Thursday, March 13, the Minister of Health and Social Welfare of Coordination, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate also congratulated Prof. Eye and urged him to ensure that the new teaching hospital meets the intentions of the renewed agenda of the administration of Tinubu and the training needs of the University of Health Sciences of Futa, Akure.
Until his appointment, Eye, who is a professor of Pathology at the Faculty of Health Sciences of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-eva, he was the rector of the Futa Faculty of Health Sciences, Akure.
He is also a histopathologist consultant at the University of Obafemi Awolowo (Oauthc) University since 1990.
Prof. Ojo obtained his degree in Medicine and Surgery at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lagos, in 1983 and subsequently conducted postgraduate residence in pathology, achieving the communion of the Nigeria Postgraduate Medicine Faculty in Anatomical Pathology in 1989.
He also obtained a Doctor of Medicine title in 2021. Since 1990, Eye has maintained a clinical investigation and interest in gastroenterology, the study of liver diseases and digestive tract disorders.
It has been fundamental to establish a collaborative network of researchers in this field in Nigeria and Sub -Saharan Africa, known as the Gastroenterological Society of Sub -Saharan Africa.
In addition, he has served as president of the Gastroenterology Society in Nigeria (Soghin) and the Association of Gastroenterology of Gastroenterology (AMAGE) in Africa, a subsidiary of the World Gastroenterology Organization.
The scholar, who currently serves as president of the Faculty of Pathology at the National Postgraduate Medical College in Nigeria, has many publications on gastroenterology and anatomical pathology to his credit in local and international magazines.
It was the founding editor of the Annals of Tropical Pathology, the main Journal of Pathology in Africa.
