The families of more than 20 people are still after the accident of the ship last Monday in the state of Delta, remain anxious.
While at least five people have been confirmed dead, another 20 still do not have an account.
The accident occurred when two fast boats, which transported passengers returning from a burial ceremony, collided along the river tracks.
According to reports, most passengers in unfortunate ships did not wear life jacket at the time of the incident.
Local volunteers are combing the river in search of missing victims, hoping to rescue the survivors.
Eye witnesses, who spoke on condition of anonymity, described the audition of desperate help screams. Some passengers managed to swim to a safe place, while many others disappeared in the water.
A local resident, David Umunede, attributed the fatal accident to poor visibility, describing the scene as tragic.
At the time of presenting this report, only five bodies had been recovered.
The Public Relations officer of the Delta State Police Command, Spafe Bright, confirmed the incident, stating that six survivors had been rescued, although not without injuries.
According to him, the injured receive treatment in an unleashed hospital in Warri.
“This is a tragic accident, and we are working with marine units and local divers to locate the missing passengers,” Edafe said.
