The National Secretary in dispute of the Democratic Party of the Peoples (PDP), Senator Sam Anyanwu, accused the governors of the party and the Board of Trustees (Bot) to orchestrate efforts to eliminate it due to its close relationship with the Minister of the Federal Territory of the Territory of capital (fct.), Nyesom Wike.

He also claimed that the governors were conspiring to form a new political party.

In an interview with Saturday GrandstandAnyanwu said that the calls for the inauguration of Sunday Udeh-Okoye as a substantive national secretary, after his statement by the Court of Appeals, are part of a “war of power” directed by the governors and the bot against him.

The PDP has been dealing with internal conflicts, driven by loyal features to Wike and those who resist their influence within the party.

Anyanwu, aligned with Wike, has been perceived as a key ally of the former governor of the state of Rivers, who supported his offer failed by the Governance of the IMO state.

Anyanwu insisted that his detractors were motivated only by his association with Wike.

“The truth of the matter is that these people are fighting a war of power. They know my relationship with Wike. That's all. I have no problem with any of them, ”he said.

He dismissed the legitimacy of the actions of the governors and Bot, arguing that none has constitutional authority within the PDP.

“The Governor Forum is a voluntary organization. Any governor can decide to be a member. It is not mandatory. It is a social meeting, ”he explained.

Anyanwu emphasized that he has held his position as National Secretary since before the majority of current governors assumed the position.

“I know these people. The party gave them tickets to become governors. I was national secretary before most of them became governors, ”he said.

Anyanwu claimed that state governors are manufacturing crises within the PDP as a precursor to defect and establish their own political parties.

“There is no problem at the party. They are only creating tension, causing unnecessary problems to go to the respective parts they want to form, ”he said.

The controversy intensified after the forum of governors of the PDP, during a meeting in Asaba, State of Delta, backed Udeh-Okoye as national secretary.

This support occurred immediately after a ruling of the Court of Appeals in ENUGU that recognized Udeh-Okoye as the legitimate position.

Udeh-Okoye's appointment follows Anyanwu's temporary resignation to dispute IMO state governor elections in 2024.

After his electoral defeat, Anyanwu sought to claim the position of the national secretary, despite the nomination of the southeast zone of Udeh-Okoye in line with the protocols of the party.

The bot reinforced the decision of the governors adopting the report of a committee led by Barr. Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (San), who supported the Court's decision in favor of Udeh-Okoye.

Regarding the proposed meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) recommended by the governors, Anyanwu revealed that the National Labor Committee of the PDP (NWC) has not yet met to launch the process.
