The Constitutional Review Committee of the House of Representatives has received proposals for the creation of 31 new states throughout the Federation.

Benjamin Kalu, the vice president, who presided over the plenary session of Thursday, read the letter of the committee detailing the proposed states. The letter said:

“This is to inform members that the Committee of Representatives of the House of Representatives on the review of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (altered) has received legislative proposals for the creation of local states and governments in the following order”.

If approved, the number of Nigeria states will increase from 36 to 67.
