The governor of the state of Oyo, Seyi Makinde, has directed all civil and public servers in the state that use native attire with a touch of 'Aso Oke' traditional every Thursday, in addition to the tradition of the existing native Friday.
It was said that the directive, issued to the heads of ministries and agencies on Monday 27, was a way of preserving Yoruba culture while stimulating the local economy.
According to a circular of the office of the Head of Service, the policy seeks to “show and preserve the vibrant cultural heritage of the state of Oyo” while generating economic opportunities.
The circular stressed that the incorporation of ASO OKE, a hand -woven fabric deeply rooted in the Yoruba tradition, will directly benefit the weavers, tinters and local tailors.

“This initiative supports the livelihoods, reduces unemployment and increases income flows for artisans,” said the circular.
The Government anticipates that the growing demand for ASO OKE will stimulate growth in the informal sector, drive tourism and promote inclusive development.
“This policy is not just about dressing; It is a strategic effort to validate our cultural identity while raising grassroots economies.
“Every Thursday and Friday, our workforce will become ambassadors of tradition and catalysts for economic transformation,” added the circular.
