Seyi Tinubu does not interfere in NANS leadership – Group

Must Read

A group under the auspices of Friends of Seyi Tinubu (FOST) has debunked a rumor that accused Seyi Tinubu of interfering in the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).

In a statement signed by FOST Chairman, Adejorin Tai Manue, on Tuesday after a stakeholder meeting held in Abuja, the group described the report as “baseless claims, aimed at tarnishing the reputation of a man deeply committed to progress and the unity of Nigerian students. “It should not be taken lightly.”

According to the group, Seyi Tinubu has consistently shown unwavering support for NANS, which has been plagued by factionalism and other disputes to foster peace, unity and progress within the association.

Adding that Tinubu has never attempted to impose his will or favoritism on the association.

While the group called for reconciliation and unity among NANS leaders.

“We wish to categorically debunk the baseless and malicious allegations leveled by certain persons against Mr. Seyi Tinubu, accusing him of interfering in the leadership transition process of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS). These baseless claims, intended to tarnish the reputation of a man deeply committed to the progress and unity of Nigerian students, should not be taken lightly.

“It is no secret that NANS, as an institution, has long been plagued by factionalism and internal disputes, which often hampers its ability to effectively represent the interests of Nigerian students. In light of this, Seyi Tinubu has consistently shown unwavering support for the student structure and other youth-focused initiatives, using his resources, time and influence to foster peace, unity and progress within the association.

“Today’s stakeholder meeting, which aims to unify NANS and address its long-standing divisions, should serve as a testament to Mr. Seyi Tinubu’s commitment to the collective good. Seyi Tinubu passionately preached unity and called on all factions to unite for the common good of Nigerian students. It is a deliberate effort to overcome divisions and strengthen the student body for effective representation and impact. Misinterpreting his intentions and turning his actions into unfounded accusations of manipulation is not only unfair but also counterproductive to the growth and development of the Nigerian student movement.

“Mr Seyi Tinubu has never attempted to impose his will or favoritism on the association. Instead, it has championed inclusion, equity and justice, while devoting its resources to ensuring that Nigerian students and youth structures are empowered to make meaningful progress. Their commitment has always been to build bridges and not walls, ensuring that NANS becomes a symbol of unity and strength, not division and discord.

“We therefore call on all Nigerian students, stakeholders and civil society organizations to ignore these allegations and focus on the real issues that matter, strengthening NANS to serve the interests of all Nigerian students , regardless of your tribe, religion or region.

“We also warn against the continued use of NANS as a tool of political manipulation or to defame people who truly want the association to progress. Mr. Seyi Tinubu's dedication to the youth of this country should be celebrated, not weaponized against him.

“In conclusion, we urge all factions within NANS to seize this moment as an opportunity for genuine reconciliation and unity. Only by working together can we achieve the progress and representation that Nigerian students rightfully deserve,” he said.
