The Nigerian Institute of Town Planners (NITP) on Monday strongly condemned the recent harassment and abuse by development control officials in Lugbe, Abuja.
The officers were carrying out their legal duties when the incident occurred.
NITP Chairman, Dr. Chime Ogbonna, led a delegation to the Department of Development Control at the AMMC Headquarters to commiserate with the Director, Tpl Galadima Mukhtar, and staff of the Department.
Ogbonna stressed that the Institute will not tolerate such actions without recourse, warning against future occurrences and ensuring that perpetrators will face appropriate action.
Muktar appreciated the support of the Institute and assured that the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) is investigating the matter with utmost care, ensuring that justice is done.
This incident highlights concerns about the safety and wellbeing of Development Control staff and underlines the need for respect and protection of professionals carrying out their statutory duties.
