The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has debunked the involvement of the Lagos APC and the executive in the impeachment trial of former speaker of the state House of Assembly, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa.
According to the party spokesperson, Hon. Seye Oladejo, the impeachment process was entirely a matter of the House, pointing out that it had no external influence.
Former President Obasa was impeached by members of the House and replaced by Hon. Mojisola Lasbat Meranda on Monday.
Oladejo observed that the impeachment process was a reflection of the independence of the legislative arm of the government.
He said: “His impeachment is not a party matter, it is the entire House of Assembly matter, it has nothing to do with party. They enjoy their independence as one of the three levels of government.
Therefore, as an independent body, we have to accept what members of the House have put into the public domain. Politics is about intrigue and interests, and the only thing that is permanent is your interest at any given moment as a politician. That is universal; It is not unique to Nigeria.”
He reaffirmed the party's commitment to providing good governance and fulfilling its election promises to the people of the state.
