The Bauchi State High Court 5 has sentenced five persons to life imprisonment for armed robbery and conspiracy to commit a crime.

The prosecutor, Barr. UI Lame, informed the court that the accused (Aliyu Yusuf, Adamu Muhammed, Bilal Aliyu, Ismail Haruna and Mansur Mu'azu) conspired to commit the illegal act on May 29, 2018.

His actions, he claimed, violated Article 96 and were punishable under Article 97 of the Penal Code.

According to Barr. Lame, the accused, armed with cutlasses and sticks, broke into the houses of Abdullahi Garba and Okafor Bright and robbed them of various valuables.

The stolen items included a Haojue motorcycle valued at N100,000, two Tecno phones worth N13,500, three LG plasma televisions valued at N200,000, two laptops worth N40,700 and six additional phones valued at N200,000.

The defendants' lawyer, Barr UI Wunti, asked for leniency during the hearing, claiming that they had already spent almost seven years in prison.

Delivering his sentence on Friday, Justice Mu'azu Abubakar found the accused guilty and stated that their actions contravened sections 96 and 343 of the Penal Code as well as section 1(2)(A and B) of the Law on robbery and firearms (Special Provision), Cap F28 LFN 2004.

“You are hereby sentenced to life imprisonment without the option of fine,” Judge Abubakar stated.
