The NNPP national leadership, loyal to the party's presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Dr. Musa Kwankwaso, and the camp loyal to the party's founder, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, have been embroiled in a power struggle over the control of the party structure. the party founded in 2022.
In claim no. FCT/HC/CV/5518/2024, the court prohibited members of the group led by Aneibonam from parading themselves as members of the NNPP, as well as from holding congresses and a national convention to elect new leaders.

The NNPP spokesperson explained that “the court order also prevents them, their agents or servants from carrying out or undertaking any official activity for and on behalf of the NNPP.
“Similarly, the court prevented the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from receiving or responding to any correspondence from them or monitoring their illegal congresses.
“We are aware that these former members are being used to try to distract us. However, the party hopes that they will appear in court so that the illegal use of the party name can be put to an end,” Johnson said.
