The Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, has denied claims that the governor played a role in the removal of former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa.
In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday, Akosile dismissed rumors of Sanwo-Olu's involvement and stressed that the impeachment was strictly a legislative matter.
“No, no, no. There is absolutely no truth to that. I mean, no, the governor has nothing to do with this. It was a purely legislative question.

“The governor is busy with serious matters, busy taking care of the more than 20 million residents of Lagos.
“I mean, we saw in the media, as you did, that the legislators removed the Speaker. We watched like anyone else. The governor should have seen it like anyone else.
“I don't think there's anything else besides that. So, at all, the governor does not intervene in the impeachment process of the president,” Akosile said.
Tribune Online reports that Obasa, a sixth-term lawmaker and third-term president, was removed on Monday during an emergency plenary session.
Thirty-two of 40 lawmakers voted to remove him over allegations of serious misconduct.
Following his dismissal, Vice President Mojisola Meranda (APC-Apapa I) was elected the new President, while Fatai Adebola (APC-Ibeju-Lekki I) became Vice President.
During the session, the lawmakers also indefinitely suspended the Secretary of the Assembly, Olalekan Onafeko, and dissolved all principal positions and standing committees.
