Ahead of next week's local government elections in Ondo State, the state governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, on Friday met presidential, vice-presidential and councilor candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the 18 local government areas of the state.
Speaking during the meeting held at the Cocoa Conference Hall, Aiyedatiwa charged all stakeholders of the party to strategize ahead of the crucial elections to ensure the party's victory in the council elections.
Aiyedatiwa stressed the importance of consolidating the successes recorded during the last gubernatorial elections.
The Governor said: “We have established a solid foundation as a party and it is now up to us to build on it. This election is not just about winning but about demonstrating that our party remains the main voice of the people.
“I assure you of my unwavering support as we head to the polls, but I urge you to avoid overconfidence. Let us remain focused and strategic in our approach.”
The Governor advised all candidates to demonstrate dedication and competence in their campaigns and eventual roles, emphasizing the need to sustain the impactful governance already established in the state.
“Show commitment to our party and to the people. Our citizens are watching. They want leaders who not only represent them well but also deliver on their promises.
“Demonstrate your ability and ability to make a difference at the grassroots level,” he said.
Earlier in his welcome address, the state president of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Engr. Ade Adetimehin, congratulated the candidates on their appearance and reminded them of the great responsibility that awaits them.
Adetimehin said: “This is a defining moment for all of you. You carry the trust and hopes of the party and the people. Don't let us down. Be good ambassadors of the APC and, above all, do not betray the trust placed in you.”
Adetimehin urged the candidates to intensify their campaigns at the grassroots level to promote the party's good governance agenda.
On behalf of the candidates, Gbenga Fasua of Akure South expressed gratitude to the governor and the party leadership for the opportunity given to them.
