An American department store chain, Macy's, has announced plans to close 66 more stores in 2025 as part of its “A Bold New Chapter” initiative, with liquidation sales set to begin in January this year.
The struggling retailer is reducing its footprint as it grapples with falling sales and changing consumer preferences.
In February 2024, Macy's revealed its intention to close 150 stores by the end of 2026, representing approximately one-third of its total locations.
As part of its strategy, Macy's is refocusing on high-end brands and plans to invest in its “350 future Macy's locations,” which the company considers its most profitable stores.
According to Tony Spring, president and CEO of Macy's, the decision to close underperforming stores will allow the company to streamline operations and focus resources on its most promising projects.
