The Executive Chairman of Itire-Ikate LCDA, Hon. (Dr.) Ahmed Olanrewaju Apatira, on Thursday started cataract surgeries and medical check-ups with free medicines for residents of the district.
During the labeled medical intervention, “2-day mega medical mission” residents were also examined and treated for conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, tuberculosis, free glasses, dental care and tooth extraction.
According to the president of the council, more than 1,000 people are expected to benefit from the medical intervention.
Apatira who was represented by his Deputy, Hon. Yetunde Jimba, advised the beneficiaries to prioritize their health by attending regular medical check-ups.
Addressing the beneficiaries at the event, he said: “This is another of our administration’s interventions to ensure quality of life for the residents of Itire-Ikate LCDA.
During this medical intervention, new cases of diabetes, hypertension and other health problems were discovered and medicines were provided free of charge by our team of medical experts.

I commend the medical team and volunteers for their dedication to ensuring the success of the program. The medical mission offers a wide range of free healthcare services and addresses various health challenges of residents.
Medications for various health conditions were made available to ensure immediate treatment of diagnosed ailments. This was done to remove all financial barriers and make essential medicines accessible to all.
Additionally, people were also screened for cataracts and surgeries and extraction was done accordingly. Other beneficiaries received free glasses to address vision challenges and improve the quality of life for many. This service was particularly beneficial for elderly residents with long-standing vision problems.
This life-changing intervention provided a solution to visual impairments that could otherwise have led to blindness. The program also focused on health education, equipping residents with knowledge about preventative care.”
He reiterated the council's determination to deliver impactful projects that improve the lives of residents.
The beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to the council management for the free medical intervention.
