The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has criticized the N49.7 trillion 2025 budget proposal presented to the National Assembly by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for passage into law, saying it could be the worst yet by any government in the country, as He quickly realized that implementation would prove even more challenging.
It would be recalled that President Tinubu on Wednesday presented the 2025 budget estimate at the joint session of the 10th National Assembly, chaired by the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, for approval into law.
CUPP spokesperson, Comrade Mark Adebayo, thus reacted to the aforementioned budget, sadly recalling that over the years, the ritual of annual budget presentations of successive Nigerian governments had always been a dark affair and full of contradictions. .
CUPP said Nigerians should not have high expectations in the areas of economic recovery or reducing inflation as outlined in the President's budget proposal, clearly stating that the proposal “does not promise much” even before its implementation.
According to Adebayo, any small promises included in the budget proposal are mere optical illusions as they come with factory-installed anomalies that cannot be fixed easily, if at all.

“The 2025 Appropriation Bill (Budget Proposal) presented to the national assembly on Wednesday by President Bola Tinubu could be the worst yet. Implementation will prove even more challenging.
“Nigerians should not have high expectations in the areas of economic recovery or reduction in inflation. This is because even before the budget cycle begins to roll out, it doesn't promise much. Any small promise contained in it is a mere optical illusion.
“I say this because the budget comes with factory-installed anomalies that cannot be fixed easily, if at all,” he said.
Furthermore, the CUPP leader said nothing good can come from a budget with a projected deficit of N13.39 trillion that would be financed through borrowing, describing it as a budget of continued slavery and exacerbated poverty in a country that “has already “He is in too much debt today.”
Adebayo described the current situation as alarming, saying it only shows that those currently in power at the center have no right to be in government.
“Nothing good can come from a budget with a projected deficit of N13.39 trillion to be financed through borrowing. That is a budget of continued slavery and exacerbated poverty. Nigeria has already over-indebted itself as it is today. It is tragic that this government lacks any creative ideas to finance the budget other than borrowing. This is alarming, to say the least.
“This just shows that those who are currently in power at the center have no right to be in the government,” he said.
