For displaying resilience and consistency in the execution of different infrastructure projects within his senatorial district in Abia-North, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), won the Senate Press Corps Award on constituency development for the third time. time.

Kalu emerged the best among 108 of his colleagues to bag the coveted award at this year's edition of the Senate Press Corps Award ceremony held on Monday at the NICON Luxury Hotel, Abuja.

According to the Apex Media Body of the National Assembly, Kalu retained the award following his relentless record of delivering critical infrastructure projects across the Abia-North Senatorial District as well as human empowerment.

The event was attended by the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, as the main host, who was represented by Senator Yemi Adaramodu and other distinguished senators.

This will be the third time the former Abia governor will take home the award after winning the 2021 and 2022 editions.

Explaining the reason for the award, the Chairman of the Senate Press Corps, Mr. James Itodo, emphasized that the lawmaker once again won the award due to his livelihood in executing numerous development projects and empowerment programs for his constituents.

Itodo added that the Organization took cognizance of Kalu representation, describing it as effective and results-oriented, particularly at the federal level, as a model of responsive and responsible representation since the introduction of the idea during the Fourth Assembly.

Due to his human and infrastructure empowerment campaign in his constituency, Kalu, who chairs the Senate Committee on Privatization, has continued to garner awards from reputable organisations.

Others included the “Honorary Scholarship Award” awarded by the Chartered Institute of Project Managers of Nigeria (CIPMN); “Progressive Leadership Award given by the Pro-Democracy group, Progressive Movement for a Better Nigeria, among others.

In 2022, Kalu bagged the Best Senator of the Year in Electoral Projects award by the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) and the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Abuja Chapters.

In legislative actions, according to Nigeria's parliamentary multimedia platform OrderPaper.ng, the 64-year-old lawmaker ranks highest among senators in Abia State with 25 bills to his name and second among his former gubernatorial colleagues in the Senate in the period 2019-2022. cumulative legislative year.
