Ace Liam, a one-year-old Ghanaian boy, has broken the Guinness World Record for the youngest male artist.

Liam’s attempt to break the Guinness World Record began in Accra, Ghana, at the Soundout Premium Exhibition at the Museum of Science and Technology on December 15, 2023 and concluded on January 21, 2024.

The previous record holder was Dante Lamb, an American, who took the title as a three-year-old in 2003.

On May 14, 2024, Chantelle Eghan, Liam’s mother, received an approval email from Guinness World Records, officially recognizing him as the youngest male artist.

To qualify for the title of youngest male artist, Liam needed to display his paintings and make sales without having to participate in a painting marathon.

Announcing his feat on Instagram, Liam’s mother said her son has been painting since he was six months old.

Liam’s mother, also an artist, mentioned during an interview with Joy News that there were specific criteria he had to meet for his category.

“To qualify as the youngest artist, you need to be at an exhibition, make sales and will be sent the purchase receipt and provide evidence of the event once it has taken place, including media and social media coverage. If you don’t sell the artwork, it won’t qualify,” he said.

Liam’s attempt to break the record began in December 2023. Liam exhibited his painting at the Museum of Science and Technology. Many Ghanaians approached the young man during the exhibitions.

Liam began painting at the age of six months with the guidance of his mother. He began using large canvases to paint until he could handle smaller canvases.

“Woke me up early this morning ‘mom painting, painting.’ I had to take him to the studio to let him have his painting output. It is still a work in progress since he decided to paint just 10 minutes after interrupting my sleep,” his mother noted.

He said that Liam, from a very young age, began learning the names of colors and how those colors complement each other.
