Health implication

Taking counterfeit or counterfeit consumer products, especially edible items such as wine, can have serious consequences for health and well-being, says NAFDAC.

However, findings have shown that short-term effects could include food poisoning, which causes nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach cramps and fever due to contaminated or adulterated products.

Kidney damage and disease or failure can also occur due to harmful adulterants.

Caution

In light of the recent seizures, the agency highlighted the importance of surveillance to protect the public and asked consumers to be especially cautious when purchasing products.
