A group in South Africa, called Progressive Forces, has started a petition to stop Chidimma Adetshina from joining the Miss Universe 2024 contest.
This happened after Chidimma arrived in Mexico on Wednesday.
According to the DAILY POST, Chidimma Adetshina, who recently became Miss Universe Nigeria, reached Mexico to represent her country in the world-famous contest happening in November 2024.
Chidimma Adetshina had some problems in South Africa when people found out she was in the Miss South Africa contest.
The Department of Home Affairs (DHA) in South Africa mentioned that they found some early signs suggesting Chidimma’s mom might have done something wrong, like using someone else’s identity.
Because of these issues, Chidimma decided to leave the Miss South Africa pageant and chose to enter the Miss Universe Nigeria contest instead.
After this news, the Progressive Forces from South Africa asked Miss Universe organizers on Wednesday to not let Chidimma take part in the contest, saying that her participation could harm the Miss Universe’s reputation.
The petition quickly gained popularity, collecting over 1,000 signatures in just one day.
“We are really worried about Chidimma Adetshina, Miss Universe Nigeria, since her mom has been accused of identity fraud,” the group stated in its petition.
“On October 29th, the court decided to cancel the identities of Chidimma Adetshina and her mom, as per the Home Affairs department. We are speaking for everyone who believes in fairness, asking Miss Universe to cancel her participation,” the petition explained.
