Finland Streamlines Work-Based Residence Permits to Address Labor Shortages

Must Read

Finland is making big changes in how it handles work permits. They want to invite smart people from around the world to help with jobs that need special skills.

These changes will help people with special talents get their work permits faster. This means they can start working in Finland without waiting for a long time.

According to TravelBiz, Finland has cut down the waiting time for special work permits. This is part of their plan to bring talented workers to help in different job areas that really need them.

Important Things to Know

  • Finland’s Immigration Service says it is now faster to get a work permit. For special workers, it takes about nine days, not 12 like before.
  • This means people with great skills can come to Finland quickly and start helping the economy without long delays.
  • By making things faster, Finland is opening its doors to skilled people. These people can really help with jobs that need special qualifications.

Who Can Apply

  • To be a special worker under the new rules, you must have a high-level degree or special skills from your job experience.
  • You also need to earn at least €3,600 every month. This ensures that highly skilled workers find Finland attractive and beneficial.
  • This focus on top qualifications ensures that people coming in meet the precise needs of Finland’s job market.

Faster Permits for All Work Applicants

  • Besides specialists, processing times for all work permits are now faster.
  • First-time work permits now take about 23 days instead of 55 days. If a work permit is rejected, the decision comes in 87 days instead of 125 days.
  • The idea is to give people quick answers to help fill needed jobs faster.

Faster Study Permits

Finland also made student permits faster to process.

First-time study permits now take about eight days on average, down from 36 days in 2023.

Keeping Finland Safe

Ilkka Haahtela, head of Finland’s Immigration Service, said these faster processes will not affect the country’s safety.

He mentioned that they are working with different groups to keep doing thorough checks and keep the nation safe. “We are making it easier for skilled people to come here and work while ensuring Finland’s safety,” Haahtela said.

Ongoing Changes for Better Immigration

  • Finland plans to keep improving the process for immigration.
  • The goal is to make Finland an even more inviting place for smart workers and students.
  • They are also working to make waiting times for asylum seekers shorter, showing a full approach to handling migration efficiently.
