The head of the police in Imo State, Mr. Aboki Danjuma, wants to know more about a doctor named Silas Nwamadi. This doctor works at Goodwill Maternity in Obinze, Owerri West. It is said that he kept twin baby boys because their mom couldn’t pay the hospital bill.
The police boss said they should let the twin boys, Chidindu and Chijindu, go back to their family. These babies have been at the hospital since May 4. They were born with help from doctors because their mom couldn’t pay the bill.
At a meeting in Owerri, Mr. Danjuma said the doctor joked about keeping the babies since the mom couldn’t pay. But he thought it wasn’t funny and told his team to check it out for real.
The police chief was unhappy the doctor didn’t feel sorry for the young mom, Precious Okere, even when some kind people offered to pay what she owed.
A newspaper learned about this from the twins’ grandma, Mrs. Ngozi Okere. She told the police boss that the doctor was pushing her and her daughter to give him the twins. Precious agreed this happened when she talked to Mr. Danjuma.
The newspaper also said that on Wednesday, some kind people, led by journalist Chidiebube Okeoma, went to the hospital to try and take the babies and mom home. But the doctor wanted more money.
Chidiebube Okeoma told the newspaper that when they tried to pay the first bill, it didn’t work. Instead, nurses had a big argument with the mom and grandma.
During the fight, the grandma lost her phone, got hurt, and even the young mom was attacked.
Chidiebube also said he had tried hard to get the twins home and that many Nigerians helped by giving money.
Now, while I’m writing this, the doctor is talking to the police at their office about what happened.
