Canadian woman sentenced to 11 years in prison for importing cannabis into Nigeria

Must Read

A court in Lagos, Nigeria, decided that a 41-year-old woman from Canada, named Adrienne Munju, did something wrong. She was caught bringing a special kind of drug into Nigeria. This was 74 packs of “Canadian Loud,” a strong type of fake cannabis, which is like marijuana, and it weighed 35.20 kilograms. Because of what she did, the court said she must go to jail for 11 years.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, which is often called NDLEA, helps stop people from bringing illegal drugs into Nigeria. Their spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, talked about this event on a Wednesday. He said that Adrienne Munju was taken to court, and the judge’s name was Justice Dehinde Dipeolu.

NDLEA officers found her at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. They caught her on Thursday, October 3, 2024, when she was getting off a plane from KLM at the airport.

After she was caught, Adrienne told the police that she was paid money to bring the drugs. She used a website to meet people who offered her 10,000 Canadian dollars if she could bring the drugs to Lagos.

Adrienne said she was guilty, which means she admitted she did something wrong. After saying she was guilty, the judge, Justice Dipeolu, sent her to jail.

The leader of the NDLEA, Mohamed Marwa, said he was proud of how the officers handled this case. He also thanked the court for making a decision quickly. He said this decision should make people from other countries and anyone else think twice about trying to bring illegal drugs into Nigeria.
