SDP Criticizes Kogi Government’s Decision to Hold LG Elections Amidst Flooding and Court Order

Must Read

The Social Democratic Party, or SDP, is upset with the government of Kogi State. Even though there was a lot of flooding and a court order, Kogi still planned to hold local elections on Saturday. This is what the SDP said in a Friday statement, shared in Abuja. They think the government should be more careful and not make things worse.

The party said Kogi should understand that all of Nigeria is facing a big hunger problem. Plus, Kogi is in the middle of a flood. Keeping the election going, they say, is reckless because many areas are underwater. People in these areas can’t even vote.

The party believes this is an example of bad leadership in Kogi State. They are calling on the election organizers to stop the election, just like the court said. SDP believes the way the government is doing things shows they are not being fair and are hurting the state.

The party explained that Kogi’s actions come at a time when Nigeria is dealing with high prices, hunger, and insecurity. They say this kind of careless behavior is not helping anyone.

SDP pointed out that the flood has affected many people. They say the government should be more attentive to what people need right now. But instead, they are forcing elections when it isn’t suitable.

The party gave some examples of what they call mistakes by the Kogi election group. They said the elections are not following the rules. Plus, there is a court case about these elections, but Kogi is ignoring it. Also, they are making changes to the list of candidates without permission, they insist.

SDP is unhappy with these decisions. They ask the leaders of the elections to listen to the rules and stop the elections until things are better. The party wishes for a fair group to manage elections, without Kogi’s bias.

In the end, SDP feels the Kogi government and its leaders are holding onto an election that shouldn’t be happening right now. They hope for changes that will help not just Kogi, but all of Nigeria. They think this can start with respecting the rules and being more attentive to people’s needs during these tough times.
