The outgoing leader of Edo State, Governor Godwin Obaseki, was reminded that he shouldn’t hide any information from the group preparing for the new government to take over.
According to DAILY POST, Dr. Pius Odubu, who used to be the deputy leader of the state and is now the head of the team for the new governor Monday Okpebholo, made this point when everyone met in Benin City on Friday.
Odubu said that giving the new team all the important papers and information will help them start working right away.
He explained that if any information is kept secret from the new team, it will eventually be found out.
He said: “The election is over, and now it’s time for us to govern. We have skilled people, and you need to give us any information you have.
“Please don’t hide anything because there are many ways to find information. It’s best to give us everything upfront. Think of it like a briefing, so the new leader knows everything and can start working quickly.
“Our task has a time limit, and we need your full cooperation to get everything we need quickly.
“We need to go over this information, understand it, and brief the new governor, so he’s ready to take charge immediately.
“He should know how the government works before he starts, and for that, we need information from you – through documents, whether printed or digital.
“We want this done within the set time, and we hope to work together smoothly.
“You’ve told us informally that documents will be ready early next week. If we need more, we’ll ask you to provide it promptly.”
The former deputy under Adams Oshiomhole asked the outgoing leaders to help show that Edo State is united.
Earlier, Victor Eboigbe, the Secretary to the Government and chair of the outgoing team, promised to give the new team all the support they need, including important documents, to make the change smooth.
He noted it’s the first time one party is handing over power to another in the state and assured everyone that they have plans to make this transition easy, always thinking about the people of Edo State.
He added: “We’re here today not only to help hand over the government but also to keep building towards a better future for Edo State.
“Once we share the information, you’ll see a lot of good work, changes, and new ideas have already been done. We’re working together to continue this progress for Edo.
“The outgoing team’s job is to carefully document and present what Governor Obaseki’s administration achieved and learned.
“Around 90% of the outgoing team are public workers. This was decided by Governor Obaseki to ensure we retain a plan that keeps the institution’s history and memory.
“We are here to support and offer our knowledge as the new team starts their big job of improving and dealing with challenges. Together, we can make sure the hopes of our people are met with fresh commitment and a clear vision of progress.
“We selected the smartest people in public service for this task.
“Introductions showed that those chosen are indeed experts. We also hired outside experts to ensure we accurately documented what’s been done, and the future recommendations are sound ones that will support growth and new ideas.”
