AFCON 2025: CAF Decides Against Sanctioning Nigeria for Libya Snub – Oparaku

Must Read

Mobi Oparaku, who used to play for Nigeria’s Super Eagles soccer team, believes that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) will not punish Nigeria. This is about a game that was supposed to happen in 2025 against Libya for the Africa Cup of Nations, but it got canceled.

Here’s what happened: The game was part of a second-round match in Group D. CAF canceled it because of some trouble the Eagles faced.

When the Nigerian team was heading to Libya, their plane was sent to a faraway airport. Once there, the team didn’t get food, water, or Internet for over 18 hours. So, the players decided not to play the game after that experience.

CAF then removed the game from the schedule and sent the situation to their disciplinary group to decide what to do next.

We’re all waiting to hear what this group will decide, but Oparaku feels sure that Nigeria won’t get into trouble. He thinks this because whenever other countries come to play in Nigeria, they are treated very well.

Oparaku told Brila FM, “CAF knows Nigeria is nice to other teams. When they visit us, we treat them kindly and never do any bad things. That’s why I think we won’t be punished. I believe they will be fair to us.”

Even though Nigeria didn’t play this latest match against Libya, they are still at the top of the group with seven points. Libya is at the bottom with just one point. This means Nigeria is doing well so far!
