The Assistant Minister in the city, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, has started a new place to help people learn how to help someone whose heart stops suddenly. This is because many people in the country have heart issues.
This special project is called the “Bring Back to Life” program. The Nigerian Cardiac Society is leading the program, and the minister came to begin the new center officially.
She explained that this event wants to teach people what to do if someone near them suddenly falls because their heart stops. They also want to put special machines, called Public Access Defibrillators, in places where many people visit often, like malls or parks.
Dr. Mahmoud shared that heart problems are a big reason why many people get seriously sick or pass away worldwide. That’s why it’s important to have the CPR center in the country’s main city, to make sure people have better healthcare and know the right steps to take in emergencies.
She explained that CPR, short for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, is a way to help someone when their heart stops. Doing this can help save their life. Knowing CPR means that people can help quickly and give that person a better chance to stay alive.
The Minister praised the Nigerian Cardiac Society for their hard work. She stated that this project shows how working together can help the public. It’s also a part of the goals of the current government led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Dr. Akinyemi Aje, who leads the Bring Back to Life program, said that a lot of heart emergencies happen outside of hospitals. That’s why it’s crucial to have CPR centers in public spaces.
He added that often, the first person to help doesn’t know how to do CPR right. Instead, others may just watch or record the situation on their phones to share online, instead of offering help.
Dr. Aje mentioned that families and friends are usually the first on the scene during an emergency. However, they might not know what to do because they haven’t learned CPR. This reason encouraged the Nigerian Cardiac Society to start the BBL project. The goal is to teach everyone in the country how to act when someone has a heart issue.
He noted that heart problems can happen to anyone, no matter how much money they have, their age, or job. It can happen anywhere, like at home, work, the market, or even at school or an event.
He concluded by saying if everyone learns what to do, more people will survive these heart emergencies. Working together can make “slump and live” possible.
