Ex-Chelsea Midfielder Urges Portugal to Dismiss Martinez, Criticizes Ronaldo’s Role

Must Read

Former Chelsea player Craig Burley thinks that Portugal should change their soccer manager, Roberto Martinez, if he keeps letting Cristiano Ronaldo play. He believes Ronaldo isn’t the best choice to lead the team as they prepare for the 2026 World Cup.

Burley feels Ronaldo, who has won the Best Player in the World award five times, didn’t play well in both the 2022 World Cup and the 2024 European Championship.

He said, “Ronaldo found it hard to play well at Manchester United and during the 2022 World Cup and the 2024 European Championship too.

“Do you think he will be amazing in 2026? He was great for Portugal for a long time but then he started having a tough time,” Burley said on ESPN FC.

“He wasn’t very active in those games and might not be very active in 2026. If people, including the manager of the Portuguese team, can’t see this, then maybe the manager should be replaced.”
