The Gombe State Government has approved a minimum salary of N71,500 for civil servants in the state with effect from October.
The Chairman of the Nigerian Labor Congress, Gombe State Chapter, Yusuf Aish-Bello, stated this shortly after the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the new national minimum wage.
The agreement was sealed between the unions and the state government on Monday in Gombe.
Aish-Bello said a worker in GL01/1 would receive a minimum wage of N71,551 in the state.
“Today; We have reached an agreement on what the state's public officials will be paid.
“It has been agreed that the minimum level of pay in Gombe State will be N71,551.15 i.e. for Grade 1 Step 1 level.
“You know the salary structure has its own complexities, the 18,000 and 30,000 naira are nothing to write home about.

“Especially on the basics, that was our focus as it forms what you get when you retire.
“The highest amount will be basic for our civil servants, especially for those who retire and we have reached more than 60 percent.
“Level one will have a basic of N42,000 and this goes down in the consequent adjustment of the basic. The more it increases, the quantity decreases due to the consequent adjustment.
“What remains now is 40 percent, which is distributed among the benefits there as a minimum wage. Thus we reached 71,551 naira,” he said.
On non-payment of arrears, he said the state government implemented a palliative of N10,000 to workers from September 2023, adding that the gesture was considered by the unions.
Earlier, the state deputy governor, Manassah Jatau, chairman of the Gombe State Minimum Wage Committee, said the government had sealed the agreement with the union leaders.
Jatau said the new minimum wage would be paid in October, adding that the state government was committed to the welfare of its workers.
