Mr. Sunday Fagbamigbe, who used to work as a big boss in immigration, says Nigeria has more than 320 secret paths. These paths are not watched by anyone and make the country less safe.
During a chat with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), he said it’s super important for Nigeria’s leaders to do something about it.
Mr. Fagbamigbe stopped working on October 4 after 30 years. He worked in important jobs in Nigeria’s immigration office. He is worried because these secret paths let bad things happen, like bringing in bad weapons and low-quality stuff from outside.
Fagbamigbe explained that these paths are like secret doors that bad people use. They do wrong things like selling illegal drugs and taking people against their will.
To stop this, he says the government should use smart tools at Nigeria’s borders. Right now, it’s mostly people watching the borders, but Fagbamigbe thinks using new gadgets will be way better.
Smart Technology
He said that in places like America and Europe, they use clever things like sensors, cameras, and night vision goggles to watch their borders.
These tools work better than just having people guard the borders. Fagbamigbe thinks Nigeria should use drones and super-smart cameras too.
The former officer said making borders safe is very important for the country’s safety. He asked the government to work with people living near the borders so everyone helps keep the country safe.
Keeping Borders Safe
Fagbamigbe was sad that there aren’t enough guards for the secret paths. This makes the problems worse. He said good border control helps cut down bad stuff and keeps Nigeria strong.
Getting new technology and working with towns near the borders will help make Nigeria safer.

Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Interior Minister, said that keeping borders secure is super important. He believes that “if a country can’t watch its borders, it might not be safe.” He added, “A safe border means a safe country, and a safe country makes the whole world safer.”
The Minister also said that not keeping borders secure causes army and police to work extra hard because “controlling borders lowers danger by more than 70 percent.”
He wants to be remembered for helping to fix big safety issues, not just for giving out passports.
The Minister mentioned, “If a country doesn’t know who’s coming in or going out, it’s risky.” He noted that Nigeria has long borders with Cameroon, Niger, Chad, and Benin, stretching over 4,057 kilometers of land and coast.
