The Kaduna State Primary Healthcare Development Agency said on Thursday that one death has been recorded among 86 suspected cholera cases.
This was revealed by the Director of Public Health, Hamza Ibrahim -Ikara, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Kaduna.
He said that during the last five months the country experienced cholera outbreaks in 30 states, the state did not record any until August 15. Ibrahim-Ikara said: “We have not recorded any cases of cholera but, unfortunately for us, on August 15 we received the new index case.
“He was a 16-year-old boy from Likoro in Kudan LGA and unfortunately before we reached the health centre, he died.”
The director said that after the death of the child, the state government reactivated the rapid response team that swung into action on August 16.
According to him, the state also received 19 cases from three local government areas including: Kudan (2), Sabon gari (9) and Kubau (7).
He said the state recorded a total of 86 suspected cases in nine local government areas, of which 24 had been treated and discharged.

Ibrahim-IKara said: “In addition, 30 samples were recorded as positive cases but were treated and discharged accordingly at the various health centers across the state.
“We will continue awareness programs to sensitize the public about the cholera outbreak in the country and the various forms of infection, its signs and symptoms and its prevention.”
He urged the public to take any suspected case to hospital, reaffirming the state's readiness to respond to the cholera outbreak without spreading it to other places in case of emergency.
