A group of 40 fishermen worked together to take down a mother hippopotamus that had hurt a man named Malam Usman Maigadi. He worked as a guard at a place called Orchard Farm, which belongs to the Emir of Yauri, Dr. Muhammad Zayyanu-Abdullahi. This happened on September 22.
These fishermen, using bows and arrows, went after the hippo in the Yauri River, located in Yauri Local Government Area. They did this on a Monday.
The head of the Yauri area, Alhaji Abubakar Shu’aibu, told everyone that the fishermen acted under the guidance given by the Emir of Yauri.
“Remember, that hippo hurt the Emir’s guard and also harmed another farmer in September,” he said.
“We can’t let a dangerous animal like this stay nearby. The people who got hurt weren’t even bothering the hippo; they were just minding their business, catching fish,” he said.
“So, after the fishermen took down the hippo, they put it on a big boat and took it to the palace of a local leader, Alhaji Kasimu Aliyu. Lots of people were there, clapping and happy,” Shu’aibu added.
“The brave fishermen then cut up the hippo into pieces and gave the meat to all the people,” he explained.
