Flood Submerges UI Hostel, Causing Damage to Property Worth Millions of Naira

Must Read

A very sad thing happened at the University of Ibadan. A lot of things got destroyed because of a big flood in one of the student homes.

The things that got damaged belong to students who live in the hostel.

The flood happened in Awo Hall, which is one of the homes for students at the university. This happened on a Friday.

Some parts, like Block A, Block B, and Block C, had a lot of water inside.

Around 16 rooms on the bottom floor were underwater. Students’ things were floating in the water.

The flood ruined lots of important stuff like papers, books, food, computers, and other important things.

The Students’ Union at the university knows about this flood.

The President, Bolaji Aweda, and another leader, Olumide Omotayo, told everyone that they have informed the university bosses about the problem.

The university bosses have asked the Works and Maintenance Team and the Student Housing Team to help with the problem.

They promised to fix this problem so it won’t happen again to the students in that hostel.

On Saturday, the Students’ Union said that the students hurt by the flood could move to new places for now.

“We feel really sorry for the students of Awo Hall, especially the ones in Blocks A, B, and C, who have to deal with this flood because of the heavy rain. We know this is very hard for them, and we want the students to know we are here to help fix this,” they said.

They continued, “We told the university bosses quickly, and they asked the right people—the Works and Maintenance Team and the Student Housing Team—to help right away.”

“These teams will check the problem tomorrow and try to fix it so it doesn’t come back. For now, the people in charge at Awo Hall said the students can stay in other rooms where it’s safe.”

“While we are trying to solve this problem for good, we ask all the students not to throw garbage anywhere and not to block the drains, so it doesn’t happen again. Thank you for your patience and help as we work on this problem.”
