Women in Delta Confess to Purchasing Newborn Baby for N2 Million

Must Read

Two women in Delta State got into trouble with the police because they bought a baby boy for N2 million from a place called a “baby factory” in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

They were trying to take the baby to someone who wanted to buy him in Delta State, but their plan didn’t work out.

A motorcycle rider, known as a “keke rider,” heard the women talking about the baby. Instead of taking them to where they wanted to go, he went straight to the police station.

Bright Edafe, a police officer, explained, “On October 1, 2024, around 6:30 pm, a tricycle driver came to the police station. He said four women got in his tricycle and, when they got to a roundabout, two of the women got out.

“One of the women who got out gave a newborn baby boy to the women still in the tricycle. The driver heard them saying that the payment was complete and that they should inform the sender once they arrived at their destination.”

The driver cleverly changed his route and took the two women, Tessi Ikechukwu and Lauretta Akomen, along with the baby, to the police station where they were arrested.

During the police investigation, it was found out that one of the women, Lauretta Akomen, who is 38 years old, bought the baby for N2,000,000 from a place in Port Harcourt. There, teenage girls were made pregnant to sell their babies to people who wanted children.

Lauretta also confessed that she had taken some medicine that made her appear pregnant.

She showed the police chief and officers where a woman named Gloria, who helped her buy the baby, lived.

Officer Edafe said the women are now in police custody, and the police are looking for more people involved in this illegal activity.
