The Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has started an important investigation. This investigation looks into some very serious bribery claims. These claims involve a well-known person named Bobrisky, whose real name is Idris Okuneye, and some workers at the correctional service.
Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo said on Monday that this investigation is needed. It will help make sure that the Nigeria Correctional Services, or NCoS, is doing the right thing and following the rules.
Last week, an audio recording appeared on the internet. In this recording, someone said to be Bobrisky was talking. He claimed that his godfather helped him to avoid serving six months in Kirikiri prison, which is in Lagos.
The minister explained that Dr Magdalena Ajani, the Permanent Secretary, will lead this investigation panel. Their job is to make sure everything is transparent and honest.
“Our goal is to improve the correctional service. Your main task is to look into specific claims about corruption, bad treatment, and torture of prisoners by correctional officers. One of the first things to investigate is the situation involving Bobrisky. I expect a report on this in two weeks,” said the minister.
Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo stressed, “We will depend on your legal advice to make sure we follow the laws. We need you to find a good path forward and share the facts with Nigerians. I want to make it clear, no one will be protected if they have done something wrong. No matter who they are, they will not be protected.”
