Three years ago, Yobe was happy because there was no polio. But now, there are four new cases in three areas. This news makes many people worried.
On Saturday, Dr. Babagana Kundi-Machina spoke about it. He works for the Yobe Primary Healthcare Board. He was in Machina, a place near Niger Republic, to start a fight against polio.
Dr. Kundi-Machina said the state is working with partners to stop polio. They are giving vaccines to prevent more children from getting polio.
He mentioned that the polio virus is found in Bursari, Machina, and Yusufari. This is sad news because Yobe was doing well for three years.
Dr. Hamisu Alhassan from the World Health Organisation (WHO) said they will help Yobe. He asked people to stay clean, wash their hands, and get immunised. These steps will keep everyone, especially women and children, healthy.
The Emir of Machina, named Alhaji Bashir Machinama, told his people to take the vaccine. He thanked the State Government for acting quickly. He promised to inform his community about what to do to stop polio.
