The leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bukkuyum, an area in Zamfara State, have removed their party chairman, Alhaji Sala Umar, from his position.
They sent a letter to the main office in Gusau, saying that on September 23, 2024, a bunch of them met and decided he shouldn’t be chairman anymore. At this meeting, most of the members agreed.
Three key people signed this letter: Nura Yusuf (the Acting Secretary), Musa Muhammad (the Legal Adviser), and Salisu Adamu (a local Ward Chairman).
They explained that Alhaji Sala Umar didn’t follow the party rules. He didn’t hold necessary meetings, skip appointments with state leaders, made decisions by himself, and caused fights and splits within the team.
They also said he was getting too old and sick to do the job well.
They pointed out they followed the party’s rules stated in section 59 (1) and (2) when they took this action.
Now, Abubakar Maiwake, who used to organize things for the council, is acting as the new chairman.
In their letter, they asked the higher-ups in the party to accept and support their decision, thinking it would benefit the party as a whole.
