The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said that the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) plans to use money from local government councils for the upcoming local government elections in Kano State.
Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas, who is the chairman of APC in Kano State, shared this news in a statement on Thursday.
He said the current government is trying to use money meant for local councils to help their election candidates.
The local government election will happen on October 26.
Abbas asked the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to stop this plan.
He said it’s important for these anti-crime agencies to watch the state ministry for local government affairs and their money dealings.
“The EFCC and ICPC should check the 44 local government councils in Kano State to see if the funds are being misused,” Abbas said.
Abbas also asked these agencies to call in the former local government chairmen to show records of their recent spending.
He said doing this would help stop the NNPP from potentially misusing the local government funds for the elections.
