Nigerian Court Sentences Two Individuals for Internet Fraud in Kaduna

Must Read

Justice Hauwa’u Bubari from the Federal High Court in Kaduna has sent Audu Ishida and Elisha Smith to jail for six years each because they were involved in cheating people.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Kaduna caught both of them for pretending to be someone else, keeping stolen money, and cleaning dirty money. They had different accusations against them.

On Thursday, EFCC wrote on their social media that both Ishida and Smith admitted they were guilty when asked in court. So, the EFCC lawyer, M.E. Eimonye, asked the judge to give them punishment.

The judge listened to Ishida and Smith’s lawyer before making a decision. The judge then said Smith should go to prison for four years, but he could pay N500,000 instead of going to jail. Ishida got a two-year prison sentence, but he could pay N400,000 instead.

They also lost their smartphones. Smith had a Samsung Galaxy S10e and Ishida had an Oppo F1s, which were taken away from them.

The EFCC found and arrested them in Jos, Plateau State, because they got a tip that Ishida and Smith were involved in online cheating.
