Nigeria Police Apprehend Four Suspects in Alleged Sextortion and Romance Scam

The Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Center (NPF-NCCC) caught four people for sextortion and romance scams.

The spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, told the public in a statement. He said the names of three suspects are Abodunrin Rasheed, Abodunrin Tunde, and Abodunrin Rokeeb.

These people were caught after someone made a report through the NPF-NCCC e-reporting system and from smart detective work by the Center.

According to the statement, these scammers tricked a man from Croatia on a dating app. They pretended to be a woman.

They chatted a lot with him on Instagram and WhatsApp. They made him believe they had a close relationship.

“They tricked the Croatian man into sending them his private pictures through the dating app. After getting these pictures, they told him to pay them money or they would send the pictures to his family and friends.

“The officers of NPF-NCCC carefully looked into the case and followed the leads. This helped them catch the suspects and collect evidence. They found six iPhones, one Techno phone, one Samsung phone, and a Lexus car connected to the crime.

“More digging showed these suspects have done many similar bad things to people around the world. They tricked and took money from many people. They mostly got their money through gift cards like iTunes gift cards and Steam gift cards. These people will go to court once the investigation is done,” the statement added.
