Saraki Criticizes Kwara Local Elections Results

Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has said that it’s a shame the 16 local government areas in Kwara State now have chairmen and councillors who were elected without the people’s approval.

This statement came after the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWSIEC) declared that All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates won the local government elections held recently.

The chairman of KWSIEC, Baba Okanla, announced that APC won all the chairmanship positions in the 16 local government areas and all 193 councillor seats.

However, on his X social media account, Saraki expressed that the people of Kwara State have sent a strong message to the state government, showing that they are not happy with the government’s performance over the past 64 months.

According to Saraki, people went to the polling stations to vote in the local government election on Saturday, but they found that there were no electoral officials and that the preparations were inadequate.

He praised the people for standing firm against what he called “deliberately created frustrations.”

“Last Saturday, in a way that was not about political parties but about community interests, people from Kwara went to the polling units and found no electoral officials and poor preparations from the electoral body. Whatever results the electoral body finally announced, our people have shown that they are unhappy with a government that hasn’t made any positive changes in their lives after 64 months. It’s a shame that the 16 local government areas now have leaders who were elected without the people’s real approval,” said Saraki.
