The head of the Awaiting The Second Coming of Christ Ministry, Pastor Adewale Giwa, believes that elections in Nigeria are being influenced by money.
Pastor Giwa feels that the people in charge of the elections are not acting like fair judges, but are instead choosing winners based on who pays them the most money.
He shared his thoughts with DAILY POST after the recent Edo State governorship election, where Monday Okpebholo was announced as the new governor.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced that Okpebholo, from the All Progressives Congress (APC), won with 291,667 votes. His opponent from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Asue Ighodalo, received 247,274 votes.
But Pastor Giwa has concerns about the election process. He said, “Elections in Nigeria are now about money. Officials are writing numbers for whoever pays them the most.”
He thinks it is sad that Nigeria is in this situation and doesn’t think real elections happen anymore.
Pastor Giwa also mentioned that what is happening now is more like a “selection” rather than a fair election.
He worries about the future and feels bad for what might happen to Nigeria in the coming years if things don’t change.
He said that regular Nigerians, who do not belong to any political party, have lost interest in voting. “That’s exactly what these politicians want,” he said, “so they can keep cheating their way into office.”
