The Adamawa State Police Command has caught a young man named Khalifa Modibbo. They say he was part of a group called the ‘Shila Boys’ who take people’s phones and small things quickly.
The ‘Shila Boys’ are known for stealing items like phones and money. Khalifa, who is from Hayin Gada in Girei, was caught just two weeks after getting out of prison. He was let out because the state was trying to reduce the number of people in jail.
Khalifa was one of 100 people who were given another chance by the Jail Delivery Committee, led by the state Chief Judge, Justice Hafsat Abdulrahman. He was in jail for stealing before and stayed there for six months.
But soon after he was set free, the 18-year-old Khalifa and his friend Ibrahim Garba got into trouble again. They were caught stealing, using the same ‘Shila Boys’ tricks.
The police said that Khalifa and Garba were on a tricycle. Garba was driving and Khalifa sat at the back, acting like a regular passenger. They picked up another passenger at Yolde Pate Junction in Yola South LGA and headed towards the main market of Yola town.
While sitting at the back, Khalifa reached into the other passenger’s pocket and took N26,000. But this passenger was smart and noticed what Khalifa did. He asked Garba to stop at a nearby police station, Wuro Hausa.
When they got to the station, the passenger shouted for help. People came and stopped Khalifa and Garba. The police took over from there.
SP Suleiman Ngurore, the Police Public Relations Officer for the state, said that the Commissioner of Police, Morris Dankombo, has ordered a full investigation to understand what happened and to make sure Khalifa and Garba face the law.
