Edo Election: Akpata Would Have Prevailed in a Fair and Transparent Vote – LP Deputy

Must Read

Yusuf Asamah Kadiri, the Labour Party’s partner for governor in Edo State, said on Tuesday that his party would have won the recent election if it was fair.

Kadiri thinks that buying votes during last Saturday’s election stopped their candidate, Olumide Apata, from winning.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the results and said that Akpata came in third place in the Edo State governorship race.

The results showed that Akpata got 22,763 votes. Monday Okpebholo from the All Progressives Congress (APC) won with 291,667 votes. Asue Ighodalo from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) got 247,274 votes.

During an interview on Arise TV’s Morning Show, Kadiri said, “If everything was fair, we would have won the election. We are still thinking about whether we should go to court or not.”

“We were the only party that campaigned in every local government area. We heard the people’s problems. We visited the smallest villages and listened to their issues.”

“On election day, many people wanted to vote for the Labour Party but changed their minds because of money. There was a clear way to win, but money blocked that way.”
